Ben Jackson is going to head with Jonathan Cleary in Cape Refuge's mayoral race - and he's even expected to win - when his wife Lisa turns up missing the day before the major debate. Suddenly the town is in turmoil as proof of and alleged affair surfaces, indicating that Ben Jackson might have had motive to kill his wife.
Meanwhile, newspaper owner Blair Owens has other suspicions - and so does Police Chief Cade. Together they dig deeply into the mysterious disappearance that soon spirals into a web of confusion, dark secrets, and unsettling fraud.
Then the town's psychic reveals the location of Lisa's body - at the bottom of the river. Even though Blair doesn't believe his paranormal gift is real, she can't imagine how he knew where the body was.
The small-town scandal quickly turns into a national media event. Is the murderer one of the obvious suspects...or someone they have no reason to doubt?

My Thoughts:
I figured out who did it! And I was completely wrong, haha!!
This book is a great suspense with a Christian theme that keeps it all from getting out of control. Yes, the main plot is Lisa Jackson and her suspicious disappearance. Lisa and Ben seem to have a great life with a great future when she comes up missing. The town immediately begins looking for her, and everyone wants to believe she is alive somewhere - until the town's psychic gets involved.
Of course, this turns into a murder mystery that has all sorts of sub-plots going on. In the middle of trying to figure out who killed Lisa, Police Chief Cade uncovers all kinds of stories going on in his town. The actual killer was not at all who I suspected, and the scene in which he/she (I'm not telling!) is revealed is pretty intense and exciting.
But there are also several other stories going on here, and my favorite is the story of Morgan and Jonathan. This couple runs the local home which seems to be a Christian based half-way house. They also take in foster kids whose parents are in prison. Morgan and Jonathan are struggling with infertility, and their story and journey touched me. I found myself crying with Morgan, and getting my hopes up with her as their story progressed.
And the third sub-plot that I loved was Blair's story. Blair owns the local paper, and has just recently brought her life back to God and to church. She is a new Christian who is struggling to live with her faith, as well as be able to be a witness to others around her. As she grows in her Christian walk, we really see a difference in her life and her personality. I just loved it.
So yes, go get this book and read it. It may be a suspense, but there are so many other things going on inside. I truly believe there is something for everyone in this book.
Terri Blackstock is a New York Times best-seller, with over six million copies sold worldwide. She has had over twenty-five years of success as a novelist. Terri spent the first twelve years of her life traveling in an Air Force family. She lived in nine states and attended the first four years of school in The Netherlands. Because she was a perpetual “new kid,” her imagination became her closest friend. That, she believes, was the biggest factor in her becoming a novelist. She sold her first novel at the age of twenty-five, and has had a successful career ever since.
Her latest series is the acclaimed, award-winning Intervention Series (Intervention, Vicious Cycle, Downfall). Other reader favorites include her books Predator and Double Minds, as well as the Restoration Series, the Newpointe 911 Series, the Cape Refuge Series, and the SunCoast Chronicles series.
In 1994 Terri was writing romance novels under two pseudonyms for publishers such as HarperCollins, Harlequin, Dell and Silhouette, when a spiritual awakening prompted her to switch gears. At the time, she was reading more suspense than romance, and felt drawn to write thrillers about ordinary people in grave danger. Her newly awakened faith wove its way into the tapestry of her suspense novels, offering hope instead of despair. Her goal is to entertain with page-turning plots, while challenging her readers to think and grow. She hopes to remind them that they’re not alone, and that their trials have a purpose.
Terri has appeared on national television programs such as “The 700 Club” and “Home Life,” and has been a guest on numerous radio programs across the country. The story of her personal journey appears in books such as Touched By the Savior by Mike Yorkey, True Stories of Answered Prayer by Mike Nappa, Faces of Faith by John Hanna, and I Saw Him In Your Eyes by Ace Collins.
